Platforms

Current accessibility

This station has step-free access through separate entrances for each platform. Each entrance is down a long ramp from station road.
The platforms are linked by a old over bridge with stairs. The car park and ticket office are on the platform 1 side, and taxi rank is on the platform 2 side. Customers who can’t use the stairs may need to take a detour at street level to access them. It is about 0.3mi from platform 2 to the car park avoiding stairs, which Google estimates as a 7 minute walk.

Comment: I understand that ramps and a 0.3 mile detour to get to the car park are problematic. However, I’m wondering why the DfT chose this station when other stations have no step-free access at all to one platform (such as
Battle
which was refused AfA funding in the year this station was approved). Perhaps there’s local factors.

I don’t have information on whether the old overbridge is having lifts attached, or a new overbridge is being built

Progress

There were delays due to problems picked up by surveys. I’m uncertain about the status - chose “detailed design” as it sounds like the plan is beyond the initial feasibility stage but is not yet under construction.

Beaconsfield Station.
Under the same Access for All scheme, we have also secured funding to have lifts installed at Beaconsfield station so that all platforms will be accessible. The work at Beaconsfield was due to start in summer 2023 and take approximately 12 months for the project to be completed and the lifts being operational. Due to issues that were picked up during surveys, there has been a delay to the scheme and is now expected to be completed in Summer 2025
Warwick Station.
Currently, there are no lifts available at Warwick station and we have secured funding through the Access for All scheme to install lifts so that all platforms will be accessible. The work on this was due to start in February 2023 and scheduled to be complete by February 2024. Some structural issues arose when work began on the underpass which meant further structural surveys had to completed and revised plans drawn up. The lifts will now be in a different location than originally planned and work continues to complete this scheme. It is estimated that this will be completed by Spring 2025.
